The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (previously the Institute of Armament Technology or IAT) is a Deemed University
in Girinagar, Pune
, India
. It began as the Institute of Armament Studies in 1952, before moving to its current location in 1967. From 1984 to 2006 IAT was affiliated to Faculty of Engineering of the prestigious University of Pune and conducted Six Post Graduate Master of Engineering Courses (five in Mechanical Engineering and one in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering) for the award of ME degree by Pune University.
In the year 2006, IAT discontinued its affiliation with the University of Pune as it had acquired the status of a Deemed University and began awarding its own degrees.
The Institute runs post graduate courses in Marine Engineering, Advanced Naval Weapon System Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Combat Vehicle Technology and many more tailor made training short courses, notably in EMI / EMC. and various mid-career Training Courses and Continuing Education Programs.
