, battles between Chinese and foreigners were in Manchuria were exclusively between Chinese and Russians. The Russians were the sole force attacking Yingkou, a strategic port.

Yingkou was divided into a foreign settlement and a Chinese city. Mishchenko had to engaged his reserved troops to win the fight. When the Russians seize the city, a number of Boxers and Chinese Imperial troops managed to pull off an evacuation. A moat, precipatation, and mud hampered the movement of Russian troops and their guns.
