The Defenders of the Constitution (Ustavobranitelji) was a political regime that achieved power in Serbia
in 1842 by overthrowing young Prince Mihailo Obrenović.
The Defenders wanted order in their administration, However, they also felt that the people themselves were not intelligent enough nor did they have the political conscious to govern themselves so it was their believe that they should teach the people how to govern themselves without their permission and against their own will.

History
Led by Iliya Garašanin and Tomas Vučić, Serbian Ministers, the Defenders of the Constitution were concerned about the welfare of the Serbian people but were also obsessed with the gaining power to the state. In 1848 a revolution in Hungary began where the Hungarians demanded national rights in the Austrian Empire. Their national rights were not recognized as well the rights of other nationalities that occupied the Habsburg Kingdom of Hungary in that time.
