Deir Ghazaleh is a Palestinian
village in the northern West Bank
, located nine kilometers northeast of Jenin
in the Jenin Governorate
. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics
, Deir Ghazaleh had a population of over 850 inhabitants in mid-year 2006, mostly Muslims, but has a significant Christians inhabitants. The town contains one clinic but it was shut down from 2001-02, since its staff is unable to reach the town due to Israeli checkpoints in the area.
. The water system is however largely controlled by Israel, and drilling restriction has severed the ongoing water crisis. Deir Ghazaleh, however
has a well, located just outside the village, called the Abu ´Ahed well. The well, which was drilled before the restrictions took place in 1967, also supply water to the surrounding communities. Some of these communities depend on the Abu ´Ahed well, although it's not enough to cover their needs.
