Less than a week after the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 concluded, Danish broadcaster DR has started preparing the 2011 edition of their national selection Melodi Grand Prix. Like in the previous years, the selection will feature one show. Songs could be submitted until 27 September 2010. Participants must have Danish citizenship or corresponding, strong relationships with Denmark. There was no restriction on the language of the entries.

A preliminary jury will select 6 songs for the national selection while 4 songs will be added by the broadcaster who will invite authors and singer to enter the competition.

On 27 September, DR announced that 663 songs were sent to them for DMGP 2011. 101 songs more than last year.

On 15 October, DR announced that the national final will take place on 26 February 2011 at the Ballerup Super Arena

On 11 December, DR announced that Felix Smith and Lise Rønne will host the show.

On 3 February, DR announced the 10 songs qualified for the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix.

In the second round of voting, the four qualifiers competed against each other in pairs, with only two progressing to the final round. Stine Kinck, with the song "Hvad Hjertet Lever Af" squared off against Anne Noa, who performed "Sleepless" and Le Freak, with the song "25 Hours A Day" faced off against A Friend In London

At Eurovision

Denmark performed in the second half of the second semi final of the contest, with starting position 18 on the 12th of May 2011. Denmark qualified for the grand final on May 14th 2011, placing 2nd with 135 points. Shortly after the completion of the second semi final, Denmark drew starting position 3 for the grand final on Saturday night. After a solid performance from the Danes, and at the completion of the voting, they finished 5th with 134 points rounding out the top 5.
