. Its sister show, Design Miami/ Basel, is held annually in June, in Basel, Switzerland.

The show began in 2005 with Design.05, and was declared an instant success, and the show expanded into Switzerland, and was renamed Design Miami/. Both shows run parallel to the Art Basel and Art Basel: Miami Beach sister shows.

Design Miami/ gives out two prestigious awards every year: the Designer of the Year Award and the Designer of the Future Award. Some of the past winners include architect Zaha Hadid
