Encyclopedia
The seventh season of Desperate Housewives
, a television series created by Marc Cherry
, began airing on September 26, 2010 and concluded on May 15, 2011. The deceased Mary Alice Young
continues to narrate the events in the lives of her friends and Wisteria Lane
residents, Susan Delfino, Lynette Scavo
, Bree Van de Kamp
and Gabrielle Solis
. The new housewife, Renee Perry
, is introduced in this season. Paul Young
returns to the lane and is the center of this season's mystery.
Season seven was originally intended to be the final season, according to creator Marc Cherry. He has a new plan to extend the series two more seasons, meaning an eighth and ninth season. Marc Cherry has signed a new two-year deal with ABC that will keep Desperate Housewives on the air until the year 2013, subject to negotiations with Teri Hatcher
, Felicity Huffman
, Marcia Cross
and Eva Longoria
, the show's main actresses, who are all contracted for seven years. The first episode of the season aired in Latin America
on October 6, 2010. Season 7 premiered in Ireland
on Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Season 7 began airing in the United Kingdom
on October 17, 2010. It started airing at 9:00 PM on October 25, 2010 on OSN's Show Series in the Middle East. It began airing in Israel
on December 12, 2010.
The series saw the lowest ratings in its history in the seventh season. In the first 12 episodes, the series attracted very similar viewership to the second half of the sixth season and hit season highs of 4.4 in the 18-49 demographic and continued around 3.5 - 4.3 until mid January. But after the thirteenth episode of season seven, "I'm Still Here
", the ratings declined heavily because of the consecutive competition from the 68th Golden Globe Awards
and then saw even lower numbers, against the 2011 Grammy Awards and then the Country Music Association Awards
. "Desperate Housewives" lost many viewers in the second half of its season, and unlike the previous season, it failed to pick up again towards the end of the season. The show hit series lows of 2.7 in 18-49 demographic twice and continued to receive ratings between 2.7 - 3.1 in the last 11 episodes with the exception of "Searching
" which was promoted by ABC after the 83rd Academy Awards
and had a lead in from the season premiere of Secret Millionaire
. This is the first time in its history that it did not place in the 20 most watched shows, ranking as the 26th most watched show, although it did place as the 13th most watched scripted show during the 2010-11 television season. The season averaged 11.85 million viewers per episode and is ABC's third most watched scripted show in total viewers after Body of Proof
and Modern Family
. In the 18-49 demographic, the show ranked 20th.

, Susan receives an offer from her new landlady Maxine to appear on Maxine's erotic web site doing housework while wearing lingerie. Despite initially refusing the offer, Susan accepts it after Mike considers taking a job on an oil rig in Alaska. Susan does her best to hide this secret from her family and friends. However, her secret is soon discovered by Paul, who is now blackmailing her into letting him buy the house, an offer Mike has previously refused. When Mike learns of Susan's secret, he decides to accept the offer of working a couple of months in Alaska so they can return to their house in Wisteria Lane as soon as possible and Susan agrees to be Lynette's nanny. During a protest after Paul announced that he plans to open a halfway house for ex-convicts on the street, the protest escalates into a violent riot and Susan is trampled by the unruly crowd. As a result, Susan loses a kidney after she learns that her second kidney is deformed and she is at severe risk of renal failure
. Susan reluctantly agrees to undergo dialysis
while waiting for a transplant. After Beth kills herself, she gives her kidney to Susan, to which although Paul first refuses, he later accepts and he and Susan reconcile. After discovering that Paul has been depressed following Beth's suicide, Susan begins cooking meals for him with the assistance of Felicia Tilman, who secretly adds antifreeze
to the food in an effort to kill him. Paul nearly dies as a result of the poisoned food. Unaware that Felicia is helping prepare his meals, Paul has Susan arrested for attempting to kill him. Eventually, Susan is released, Paul confesses to the murder of Martha Huber, and Felicia presumably dies in a car crash while fleeing town. Susan and her family move back onto Wisteria Lane.
, Renee Perry, wife of New York Yankees
player Doug Perry, comes to visit her. While Lynette decides to ignore Tom's postpartum depression
, Renee listens to him, which Lynette thanks her for, but tells her to back off. She's also stunned after Tom's doctor prescribes marijuana as a cure for his depression. Lynette realizes that her daughter Penny is helping her a lot with the baby, and decides she needs a nanny. Tom enlists the help of his mother, who has very different views on family values than Lynette, which causes conflict. In addition, Tom's mother seems to be losing her memory. When Tom's mother, Allison, clashes with Lynette, he decides that the best thing to do for her is to send her to a nursing home. She hires Susan, who's having financial woes, to be her newborn baby's nanny. Lynette is shown to be insecure in their marriage when Tom complains that she never "talks him up" to her friends although they sort it out. When Lynette learns that Renee and Tom had a one night stand 20 years ago which happened right after Tom and Lynette became engaged, she doesn't take it well, and is of course upset but keeps it quiet and instead begins a series of pranks against Tom as payback. When Tom find out, he confronts Lynette and she eventually forgives him. When Tom gets a new job that provides well, Renee encourages Lynette to spend freely with money but also warns her that Tom will be spending more time away. When Tom attends a conference, Lynette is upset that she is unable to attend any of the events because she's just a wife, and she is not allowed to attend any speeches, so Lynette steals a woman's ID to attend a talk only to discover she has the identity of the keynote speaker. Back home, Renee watches as Tom and Lynette argue, and he complains, that after so many years of supporting Lynette, it hurts that she won't do the same for him. Then when Tom hires Lynette and Renee to decorate his office, Lynette decides to design it against the wishes of Tom. Renee overrules her to give Tom the office he wants. More tension arises between Tom and Lynette when Tom decides to book a luxurious holiday for the family and announces it Lynette is annoyed and consults Tom about why he did not consult her about it first. This leads to yet another fight between them; this time however they insult each other. They decide that it is only them who need to spend a holiday together. The holiday turns out badly and the relationship deteriorates and becomes extremely awkward. Before Lynette attends a street dinner party, Penny reveals to her that Tom had left her a note. Lynette is surprised and finds that Tom's unpacked suitcase from the holiday is not in the bedroom, convincing her that Tom had left her. After revealing to Susan that she thought Tom had left her, Lynette walks into her house, finding Tom, had returned. The two talk and Lynette confesses that when she thought Tom had left, she felt relieved, leading the pair to finally decide to separate.
Richard Watson, Keith's father, learns that Bree is a divorcee like himself, having feelings for Bree, he tries to make a move to destroy Bree's and Keith's relationship so that he could have Bree instead. Keith attempts to propose to Bree and after the second failed attempt, Keith begins to question his relationship with Bree. Richard manipulates Keith's mind by warning him that Bree might be using him as a diversion from her actual feelings after her divorce from Orson Hodge. As a result, Keith begins to avoid Bree. Richard then kisses Bree all of a sudden and after he leaves, Bree tells Keith everything about his father's attempts to tear them apart. Later, Keith confronts Richard about this and has a fistfight with him but when rioters, who are opposing Paul Young
's plan to open a halfway house
for ex-convicts on Wisteria Lane, see the two fight, they mistake him as an ex-convict due to his tattoos and ex-convict-like clothing and begin to beat Keith up. Bree breaks up the fight by firing a gun into the sky and this triggers fear and panic among the rioters and supporters for the halfway house alike, thinking this is an assassination
attempt, proceed to flee, resulting into a riot. When Orson returns, claiming he was dumped by his girlfriend, Orson makes it clear he doesn't think Keith is a good choice for Bree as they have nothing in common. Bree goes to see Orson's ex, who reveals that Orson was the one who broke up with her as he's still in love with Bree. She confronts him and Orson confesses how he feels and thinks Bree is too good for Keith. Keith is angered at Bree continuing to want Orson to stay with them, saying that she's still in love with Orson. Bree proves to Keith that she's changed. When one of Keith's old girlfriends comes by, Bree is suspicious and discovers the woman has been raising Keith's son. Bree goes to the girlfriend, lying about how Keith doesn't want to know the child. Bree eventually confesses to Keith, overcome with guilt. Keith leaves to be with his son. Bree discovers that Andrew has started drinking again, so much so that his husband leaves him. She encourages Andrew to go into rehab but is jarred when he decides to make amends by telling Carlos about running over his mother. Bree accidentally blurts out what Andrew did, just before her son enters the cabin. Carlos is outraged over this but eventually forgives Andrew. However, says he won't forgive Bree for hiding the truth all these years and that they're no longer friends and that she and Gabby can no longer be friends. Bree ends up taking Gaby and her daughters into her house when Gaby leaves Carlos after telling him that she will not end her friendship with Bree. Bree she has a run in with Detective Chuck Vance (Jonathan Cake). Juanita Solis calls the police and tells them that Bree is trying to kill her and Celia (after Carlos tells her Bree's involvement in her grandmother's death). Detective Vance responds to the call at Bree's home and Carlos sorts everything out, explaining that the girls misunderstood what he had told them. Later, Bree agrees to go out on a date with Chuck, when Bree tells Renee, Renee runs a background check on Chuck and reveals to Bree that he's still married (though he had filed for divorce a year ago). At dinner, Bree confronts Chuck with this information but Chuck retaliates by telling her that he had also ran a background check on her, therefore becoming more aware of Bree's past. Offended, Bree abruptly ends the date, however, later that night, Chuck impresses Bree, and she gives Chuck a second chance and the two agree to go out on another date afterwards. In the finale, Bree and Chuck have sex with each other, after a long wait for Chuck's divorce to go through. At the end, when all the housewives walk in on the death of Gaby's stepfather by Carlos, Bree is the one who decides to cover up the incident, and for this, Carlos forgives Bree.
relationship. After she announces to Lynette that she's moving right across the street, Tom tells her to not to tell Lynette about something that had happened between them whilst he and Lynette had broken up. She's also divorcing her husband, Doug Perry, after he dumped her for his agent's secretary. She competes for the attention of Keith with Bree, but eventually steps aside and the two become friends. Renee also clashes with Gaby, but they, too, become friends. She asks Lynette's help so they can start a business together, and Lynette accepts the offer. When Susan discovers Renee had an affair with Tom Scavo 20 years ago and says she is still in love with him. When Renee eventually tells Lynette about the affair. Apparently, Tom and Lynette had briefly broken up during this time. Lynette decides to forgive Renee and Tom. When Renee was asked to design a room for Bob and Lee's adopted daughter, Renee reveals that she once thought about having children of her own. Renee then decides she wants to adopt a baby, although Lynette stops her and says Renee is not ready to be a mother. It is also revealed that Renee's mother shot herself. In the season finale, Renee finds out that Doug is getting married again so she gets drunk and has a fling with her bartender, but it doesn't last long.

Gabrielle Solis
The season premiere reveals that Gaby's baby had been switched at birth, meaning that Juanita isn't really her daughter. While she's torn between looking out for her biological daughter and keeping Juanita, she's also keeping from Carlos that it was Andrew Van De Kamp who was driving the car that killed his mother eleven years ago. After asking Bob, her lawyer, to contact the family of her biological daughter, Carlos warns her that if things end badly, he will leave her forever. After meeting their daughter, Grace, Gaby and Carlos are finding that they are falling in love with her. Gabrielle is reluctant, keeping photos of Grace but Carlos demands she do this for Juanita. Gabrielle seems to agree, but goes to a boutique and buys a doll that resembles Grace and keeps it hidden from her family. After Juanita and Celia find it and play with it, Gabrielle begins to becomes too attached to the doll. Carlos finds out about Gabrielle's obsession with the doll, and one night when they go out, they get carjacked by an unknown gunman. Carlos insists she go to therapy but she ignores it. Eventually, Carlos goes with her as she confesses to the therapist how she was molested as a child. Gabrielle and Carlos go to her hometown where Gaby is surprised to learn she is a celebrity. She enjoys being admired by the townspeople until she meets the nun she had once confided in about her abuse as a child. The nun had then refused to believe Gabrielle's story and Gabrielle lets out the shame she has long since been forced to feel by the cold nun's words. When Andrew decides to tell Carlos about running over his mother, Carlos does forgive Andrew, he is furious with Gabrielle over keeping the secret from him. He tells Bree that he won't forgive her for hiding the truth and bans Gabrielle from seeing Bree again. Gabrielle takes her girls and temporarily moves in with Bree. She shortly returns to Carlos. When Juanita has nightmares and claims that a man is standing on the family's front lawn every night. Gabrielle is doubtful of this until she too notices the mysterious stranger. She sees him while shopping one day and asks a security officer to see a security camera. She realizes that her stalker is the stepfather who raped her as a child even though he was believed to be dead. Gabrielle learns her stepfather has been following her everywhere she goes.
