History

DMAI was founded in 1914 as the International Association of Convention Bureaus (IACB) to promote sound professional practices in the solicitation and servicing of meetings, conventions and tourism. In 1975, the association changed its name for the first time to become the International Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau (IACVB), to reflect the growing importance of consumer travel. In August of 2005, the association changed its name for the second time to become Destination Marketing Association International.
