with a bachelor's degree
in communications. In late-2005, Drisoll, under the name Devin Driscoll, began wrestling for NWA Rocky Top and the United Wrestling Association the following year. He feuded with "The King" Shane Williams, facing him at UWA No Return in Knoxville, as well as occasionally teaming with Romeo Roselli
. He was eventually forced to leave the promotion after losing a Loser Leaves UWA match to Shawn Schultz on August 17. Schultz also received five minutes in the ring with Driscoll's valet Keeley Caress whom he body slamed then gave her a public spanking
.
at the Fort Sanders Fitness Center in August 2006, Driscoll signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment
. He attended a three-day try-out camp run by Bill DeMott
before being assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling
. After training with Tom Prichard
, Driscoll made his official debut losing to Jacob Duncan on September 9, 2006. Although scoring early victories over Pat Buck and Shawn Osbourne, Driscoll was initially used as a preliminary wrestler during his first month with the promotion in matches against Paul Burchill
and Oleg Prudius
, to whom he lost in a 3-on-1 match with Johnny Punch and Rob Roy McCoy on September 27. On October 7, he also faced Joey Mercury
in his return match from rehab.
Four days later, he scored an upset victory over Charles "The Hammer" Evans (with ODB
) to win the OVW Television Championship
at an OVW television taping. Defeating Evens in subsequent rematches, Driscoll defended the title for nearly a month before eventually losing the title back to Evans on November 1. He teamed with Chris Rombola and Jason
in a 6-man tag team match against Mike Kruel
, Eddie Craven and Shawn Osbourne on November 4 and, the following night, he and Katie Lee defeated Charles Evans and Beth Phoenix
in a mixed tag team match. Several days later, he lost to El Aero Fuego
to decide the number one contender for the OVW Television title but ended up facing Charles Evans and El Aero Fuego in a three-way match on November 12. After losing to Paul Burchill at a November 22 television taping, he became inactive for the rest of the year. His last match in the promotion was a tag team match with Steve Lewington against Charles Evans and Justin LaRoche at Green County High School in Greensburg, Kentucky

On December 18, 2008, Driscoll appeared during an Ericules Wrestling Promotions show during a championship match delivering a spear to the champion, Sigmon which ultimately cost him the match and championship. On January 1, 2009, Driscoll appeared again during Sigmon's championship rematch with Jason Maxx. Driscoll distracted Sigmon and his associates "Filthy" Rich Kavana and Chase Owens, which costed Sigmon the championship.
On June 9, Devin Driscoll made his return to the ring teaming with Chase Stevens at the Cotton Eyed Joe in Knoxville, TN and defeated the team of Paul Burchill and Micah Taylor. On June 30, Devin returned to the ring again (Cotton Eyed Joe)and defeated Brandon and Brent Tate in a 2 on 1 handicap match. At the conclusion of the main event, Devin rushed the ring to aid Chase Stevens. When the dust settled, Devin announced the creation of the Next Level Wrestling Heavyweight Championship with the first round of the tournament featuring Devin Driscoll versus Paul "The Ripper Burchill" on July 21, 2011 at Knoxville Catholic High School.
