Dhamial Jats

The Dhamial or sometimes pronounced Dhamyal, are a Rajput tribe found in Punjab
, Pakistan
and Azad Kashmir
. According to the 1931 census they numbered 9,500 of which Jats numbered 1,500 and Rajas, 8,000.(see Dhamial

s, and are descendants of Raja Dhami Khan Janjua.
The Dhamial are of both Raja
and Jat status, as are many tribes of the Pothohar region. Historically, members of a Rajput
tribe did not touch the plough, but employed other communities to till their fields. The Dhamial Rajputs that took to agriculture became part of the Jat community bearing the title 'chaudhry' meaning baron/landlord (jagirdar). This title was conferred to the muslim rajputs by the sultan of delhi. The Dhamial account for themselves as having come originally from Ghazni
to the Sialkot District
, from whence they went to Dhamiak

) where dhami khan built a fort.The area is known as dhami qila (dhamakna or kot dhamiak).
They Ruled the area and fought a fierce war with malik qadd khan gakhar.
They are chiefly found in the Rawalpindi District
