It is told that One family called "Sawoo" came here first and established the village,and that is true.They then established one school and one health care unit. This village got its first School for only Girls, established more than 100 years ago. One can imagine the situation 100 years back.
If you are interested then it is a good weekend visit just 50km away from Kolkata.
While entering this village, the first thing you will see is a big mansion called "Gaine Garden",now the "Gaine Garden" is becomes an orphan age the members of Gaine family gave the place to indian govt. to creat that orphan age and as you go by you will happen to see "Gaine Family Building", then "Sawoo Family Building" and "Ballav Family Building" and at last you will find Sawoo family's Big garden spot by a small village river.
A perfect day outing from kolkata.

Best time to visit: Between December to Feb during winter when the temperatures are cooler. Air conditioning is a rarity.
A very beautiful character of this place are the mangoes,so very tasty and plenty it drowns you in greed. Every family here have mango trees planted in their yards in front of the house and even in the backyards.
The zamindar bari's specially "ballab bagan" is a paradise for mango lovers, where one would get to see acres of land where mangoes loiter on the ground from the stems of the tree.
