Though the album went relatively unnoticed by the general public, Diamond Daze was well-liked by critics such as Andy Kellman at allmusic. Comparing Pantha du Prince's album to all other recordings from Dial, the label that released Diamond Daze, Kellman stated "This album challenges Lawrence's The Absence of Blight as the label's best to date." He awarded Diamond Daze four out of five stars.
