Dibond is a brand of rigid substrate
s in the Aluminum Composite Material
(ACM) category. The brand is owned and manufactured by 3A Composites. Like all ACMs, Dibond is a compound material made up of multiple constituent parts. Dibond consists of two 0.012" aluminum faces thermobonded to a solid polyethylene
core. Dibond is lighter than aluminum, yet at the same time is engineered to retain its superior flatness and will not "oil can" or bow like solid aluminum sheet.
It is used for mounting fine art prints and in construction of trade show materials. In both cases the high stability at low weight is important for portability and ease of mounting reasons.
Dibond sheets are usually available as sheets with a 2mm, 3mm or 4mm thickness.
booths and similar temporary elements. It has recently also been adopted as a backing material for mounting fine art photography, often with an acrylic finish using processes like Diasec
or other face-mounting techniques.
