Diogo of Portugal was a Portuguese
infante, son of John, Lord of Reguengos de Monsaraz, infante of Portugal, and of his wife (and niece) Isabella of Braganza
. Through his father Diogo was grandson of king John I of Portugal
and through his mother he was grandson of Alphonse, first duke of Braganza
.
Following his father's death (1442) he received the title of Constable of Portugal
, and was also elected, in 24 January 1443, as 11th. Master of the Order of Santiago
.
This was one of the causes of the quarrel between the regent infante Pedro, Duke of Coimbra and his half-brother Afonso, Duke of Braganza, once Afonso wanted the Constable position to his own son.
Diogo died unmarried later the same year, without issue.
