Disraeli (1921 film)
Encyclopedia
Disraeli is a 1921
silent
historical drama directed by Henry Kolker
and starring George Arliss
. This movie was Arliss's second outing in film (after The Devil
also in 1921) and first screen portrayal of Disraeli as he had made famous in the play in 1911. A British film of the play had been made in 1916 with the permission of the author Louis Napoleon Parker. Because of the production of the 1916 film (angering Arliss while he was still performing the play on Broadway) Arliss later secured all screen rights to the play from its author Louis Napoleon Parker. This movie is the result of Arliss's after his efforts and frustrations with Parker.
Today with the exception of one reel, this film is lost
however according to FIAF database a print is preserved in Gosfilmofond, Moscow, Russia. Arliss remade the film in 1929 with sound
