On 4 January 1872 during the Looshai Campaign, North-East India
, Major Macintyre led the assault on the stockaded village of Lalgnoora. He was the first to reach the stockade, at that time about 9 feet high, and successfully stormed it under heavy fire from the enemy.
He fought in the Second Anglo-Afghan War
and was granted the rank of major general
upon retirement.
