It is currently the main lead-up race for the Queensland Oaks; however, the Brisbane Racing Club has proposed that this race will be renamed the Queensland Oaks, with the current Queensland Oaks becoming a fillies and mares race. Prizemoney in 2008 was A$176,100.
The most notable winner of the race is 2001 winner Ethereal
, who went on to win that year's Melbourne Cup. In winning the 2002 race, Palidamah set a new speed record of 2:01.95 for the current distance.
To date, Roger James is the only trainer
to win this race twice.
