Doru Tureanu is a retired Romanian ice hockey forward.
in the Romanian Hockey League
for eleven years, from 1971–1981, and helped them win six Romanian championships, in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1976, 1979, and 1981.
He was also a key part of the Romania men's national ice hockey team, and he took part in seventeen IIHF World Championships, from 1971–1987, and the Olympic Games
in 1976, and 1980.
At the 1976 Olympics, Tureanu scored 6 goals, and added 6 assists, in only six games. At the 1980 Olympics, he scored 5 goals and added 2 assists in five games.
After an impressive performance at the 1977 World Ice Hockey Championships
, Tureanu was offered a contract by the NHL's Montreal Canadiens
. Tureanu declined the offer, to stay in Bucharest with his sick mother. Three years later, the Canadiens sent officials to Bucharest to attempt to sign him to a contract, however Romania's secret police, the Securitate
found out, and he was again obliged to turn down the offer.
In December, 2010, it was announced that Tureanu would be inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame
