On August 7, 1774, Colonel Angus McDonald brought 400 men from Fort Pittsburg in the Wakatomica Campaign of Lord Dunmore's War to fight the Shawnee. The settlement of Wakatomika, as well as four, other villages was burned to the ground and three chiefs were taken prisoner.

There were 651 households out of which 27.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples
living together, 15.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% were non-families. 30.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.88.
In the village the population was spread out with 28.0% under the age of 19, 4.8% from 20 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 83.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.7 males.
