Dwayne Wright is an American contemporary artist, graphic designer, illustrator and producer who emerged from the urban art scene. He is known under the name Dubelyoo, which at the same time is his brand (Dubelyoo, LLC). He is also known as The Art Bishop.
he moved to Atlanta, GA for a career in Web Design. Dubelyoo has had success as an artist, graphic designer, illustrator and as the co-producer of the national touring art exhibition Art, Beats+Lyrics. He first became known for his illustration work with magazines like Frank151, Complex Magazine
and XXL
. His work became more widely known for his part in an International ad campaign with Ecko
and his work being featured in the Alicia Keys
video Teen Age Love Affair.
. He started drawing at the age of 3 and by the age of 7 he placed in art programs with students 3 grades higher. During the mid 80’s his family moved to Fayetteville, NC.
and Lugz. These commissions lead for more visibility and projects for clients like Pepsi
and Apple.
In 2004 Dubelyoo teamed up with Jabari Graham to produce Art, Beats + Lyrics at the High Museum. This group urban art exhibition incorporated the elements of hip hop
in a way that drew in a crowd of 3,000 viewers. The success of that show lead to other art shows like Cold Busted a show that dealt with celebrity mug shots and My Uzi Weighs a Ton a show of guns in American Culture.
To broaden his artistic horizon, Dwayne travelled to Germany
and France
in 2007 to visit family and to study art. This set the stage for the return trip to Germany 7 months later as part of the Solphiticated Tour, a series of one night shows which incorporated artist and friend Fabian Williams and DJ Jamad
. Around that time AB+L partnered up with Jack Daniel's
to take the experience to a new level and to become one of the largest traveling urban art exhibitions to date. In 2008 Dubelyoo's work was featured in the book DEFinition: The Art and Design of Hip-Hop by Bill Adler and Cey Adams. Shortly after that he was commissioned by director Chris Robinson
to have his work featured in the movie ATL
and again in Alicia Keys
video Teenage Love Affair.
While producing art events and creating new work, Dubelyoo began to take note of the relationship between corporations and hip hop culture, then hip hop culture and pop culture. These relationships began to appear as elements in his work thus leading to his current series called social Surveillance. In this series of works, Dubelyoo uses mixed media to comment on pop culture and the effect that it has on the public.
