Critical reception

The reviews to the film were rarely all negative, blaming the script and lack of comedy. The film had a poor opening. Many people saw it as a crude remake of the blockbuster Home alone, while lacking the humor and emotional depth of Home Alone.

Box office

Dum Kata made only about Rs.3.42 lakhs at the box office. It was declared not a flop but a 'disaster' by Box Office India due to the lacklustre business.
