After the turn of the millennium, with the rise of Internet publishing and under new ownership after sale of CMP Media by the Leeds family in 1999 for over $900 million to United Business Media, EE Times moved more into web publishing. The shift in advertising from print to online began to accelerate in 2007 and EE Times shed staff to adjust to the downturn in revenue.

In July of 2010 EE Times relaunched eetimes.com bring together all of the web sites associated with EE Times including embedded.com and Techonline.com under one integrated site and launched the industry's first social media and networking site "EE Life" within eetimes.com.
