The eNews Channel is a South Africa

sister company eSat. The channel is currently exclusively available on DSTV
channel 403 and can only be viewed by DSTV subscribers in Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. The channel made history by becoming the first 24 hour news channel in South Africa.

. However, e.Sat was the first to throw in the towel and said the South African market was only big enough for two operators. They then later announced that they would instead work as a channel supplier to the already operating Multichoice's DSTV platform. On the 1st of June 2008, the channel took to the airwaves at 19:00 for a special edition of its flagship programme News Night. Over time the channel continued expanding the number of shows, presenters and format to be more appealing to more viewers.

During the week of the elections the entire half hour news show would simulcast with the 2008 elections and on the day the whole channel was duplicated only omitting advertising where normal adverts were on e.tv, the usual news screens showed on the eNews channel.

The channels flagship news bulletine originally aired from 7pm to 9pm but was expanded from 6pm to 9pm Monday to Friday. Direko left the channel sighting over work as the reason. She was replaced by CNBC Africa's Nikiwe Bikitsha on the 11th May 2009. These three anchors anchored every edition of the show except between Christmas and New Years Day. It also includes interviews with news makers and spoke persons of organisations in the news.

News Day is anchored by Andrew Barnes, who was already a part of the eNews line up before the channel's launch. The show was originally half an hour on e.tv but expanded to two to three hours on the channel. The first half an hour of the show is still simulcast on e.tv at 1pm. The show airs Monday to Friday.

History
The channel's earliest signs of birth was when the newly formed e.Sat applied for a pay TV licence during the Pay TV Regulation period in 2007. 2009 South African Elections
During the 2009 South African elections the same applied as well as the channels graphics being slightly changed and the main studio was expanded. During the elections its flagship show News Night expanded from two to three hours and stayed that way ever since. Jeremy Maggs anchored the channel/s for the entire election day. Meteorologists
Derek van Dam joined the channel at launch and serves as its chief meteorologist. He shot to fame with his new perspective of weather reading and his accent. All forecasts are created in house by himself and the other meteorologists on the channel, which include Candice Mckechnie, Joel Guy, Luis Fernandes and Afrikaans anchors Magdel van Rooyen and Lynette van Schalkwyk. Weather on the channel is not live but the weather clips are broadcast on both e.tv and eNews Channel and loops.Public Reaction to the Channel
