Eamonn Martin competed at the top level in track, cross country, and road racing. He won the 10,000 metres at the 1990 Commonwealth Games
in a time of 28:08.56. He was the National Cross-Country Champion in 1984 and 1992, he won the Belfast International Cross Country race in 1991, and he is the current English Cross-Country team manager. Martin had disappointing races at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics, finishing thirteenth in the 1984 Olympic 5000-metre final and dropping out of the 1988 Olympic 10,000-metre final (see, for example, "The Big Olympic Book" / Suuri Olympiateos, volumes 4 and 6, published in Finland in 1984 and 1988, respectively).
