East Bowling is also home to X Factor's Zayn Malik whose boyband One Direction
came third in the seventh series. Simon Cowell is known to have quoted that it was "just the beginning for these boys" and signed them to his record company Syco Music shortly after the X Factor ended. Since their signing in 2010, One Direction have attracted a large fanbase, justified by their half a million fans on popular networking site, Twitter. Their début single What Makes You Beautiful
(released 11th September) broke three world records; including biggest number of pre-orders in Sony Music history and reaching #1 on the iTunes chart within 11 minutes.
