East Reading is a district of the town of Reading
in the English
county of Berkshire
.
The district has no formal boundaries, but the name is generally used to refer to the area within the borough boundaries to the east of the city centre, to the south of the River Kennet
, to the north of Whitley
and to the west of Earley
. As such it includes the densely populated area of Newtown
, as well as the areas around London and Earley Roads, Cemetery Junction and the Wokingham Road as far as the borough boundary at the Three Tuns.
The Royal Berkshire Hospital
and the University of Reading
's London Road Campus
lie on the district's western boundary, whilst the University of Reading's larger Whiteknights Campus
is on the southern boundary. Both Reading College
and the Thames Valley University
are in the district, as is Reading School
. The oldest building in the area is Watlington House

Reading Buses operate frequent bus services along the Wokingham Road, and to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
The district lies entirely within the borough of Reading, including all of Park ward together with parts of Abbey, and Redlands wards. The district lies in the Reading East parliamentary constituency.
