A Junior Kiwi, Paea was named in both the Tonga training squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup
and the New Zealand training squad, but he was finally selected for the Tonga squad in October. Paea scored his first senior international try in the World Cup match against Scotland
on 8 November 2008. He also converted one try.
