The Edmonton Downtown arena, or simply a new Edmonton arena, is the name being used for a new multi-use indoor arena in Edmonton

that is currently in the planning stages. It will mainly be used for ice hockey
, and other indoor sports, as well as music concerts. The planned opening date is the fall of 2014 and will have a capacity of 18,500 spectators. Once completed, the arena will replace Rexall Place
as the home of the NHL

The arena will cost $450 million. The city of Edmonton will pay $125 million, the Katz Group will contribute $100 million, and $125 million will come from a user-paid facility fee. The remaining money could come from the Province or Federal agencies.
On October 26, 2011, the Edmonton City Council approved to move forward with the arena deal by a vote of 10 to 3.
