Edward Francis Carey was a politician in Alberta

in 1849 during the California Gold Rush
. He later moved to the Peace River Country
in 1864 or 1865 before moving south to Edmonton
during the 1870s. Once in Edmonton, he co-founded Norris & Carey, the city's first general store, which he managed until his retirement in 1894.
In 1892
, Carey was elected as an alderman to Edmonton's first Town Council, finishing third of fourteen candidates (the top six were elected). He did not seek re-election in 1893
, and did not engage in politics thereafter.
Carey died September 10, 1908. He was survived by a son and a daughter.
