and then in 1838 entered St. Mary's College, Oscott
. Upon graduation, he joined the London Oratory
in 1849 and was ordained a priest in 1852. In 1874 he became Bishop of Nottingham, resigning in 1901.
He was appointed titular bishop
of Hypaepa in 1902, and titular archbishop of Seleucia in 1904. He was styled Bishop Emeritus of Nottingham.
