 politician and government minister. He served in Parliament during nonconsecutive terms from 1992 until 2010. Huniehu was one of the longest-serving members of parliament at the time of his death in 2010.

. He was re-elected to his seat in the 1993 general election.

Huniehu temporarily left politics for personal reasons during the 1990s. He was re-elected to Parliament during the 2001 elections, and was re-elected in 2006. Huniehu served in several ministerial positions during his career, including Minister for Energy, Mines and Rural Electrification. He was replaced as Minister for Energy, Mines and Rural Electrification in late 2009 due to deteriorating health. Huniehu also served as leader of the opposition for a time.

Edward Huniehu died from a long illness of April 12, 2010. He was buried in his home village of Manawai, East Are Are, Malaita Province
