The Rt Rev Edward Latham Bevan , DD
, MA (1861 - 1934) was the inaugural Bishop of Swansea and Brecon
from 1923 until his death on 2 February 1934.
Born in Weymouth on 27 October 1861 he was educated at Hertford College, Oxford
and ordained in 1886.
He began his career with a curacy
at Holy Trinity, Weymouth after which he was Chaplain
of the Gordon’ Home for Boys until 1907 when he became Archdeacon of Brecon. He was first elevated to the Episcopate as the Suffragan Bishop
of Swansea in 1915 before becoming its full Diocesan
eight years later.
