Career

He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Oslo

 in 1961, and was re-elected on two occasions (1969 and 1973). He had previously served in the position of deputy representative during the term 1958–1961.

In 1965, having recently lost his Parliament seat in the general election, Aarvik was appointed Minister of Social Affairs in the centre-right cabinet Borten
