History

The gang started in the 1950s in a poor neighborhood near flower nurseries in El Monte, CA located in the San Gabriel Valley. Flores is Spanish for flowers. El Monte Flores originally came from one gang called "El Monte" which linked all gangs from El Monte together. Various gangs such as White Fence, El Monte Rifa, and Rowland St broke off and became separate gangs working with either the Sureños

. By the 1970s, El Monte Flores alone held almost 400 members. Many El Monte Flores members are somehow associated with the Mexican Mafia, which includes the well known gang members Albert "Blackie" Amaya, Clark "Boxer" Duran, Jose "Jo Jo" Perea, Ricardo "Danger" Valdivia, Anthony "Cheya" and "Dido" Moreno. The El Monte Police Department has even expressed having trouble with handling members of the Sureños gang sets, specifically El Monte Flores 13.
The gang consists of only one click "Tiny Midgets" or "TMS".

Tattoos

Members usually tattoo the words, "Monte Flores", "El Monte F", "Flores", "EMF", "EMFxTMS" on them. XIII, X3, 13 and 3 dots are also seen with Sureño gang members.
