Elbow bondage
Encyclopedia
Elbow bondage is a bondage
technique which involves binding a person's arm
s at the elbows behind the person's back, ideally with elbows touching. Not all people can achieve full elbow contact when first attempted, however over time with multiple sessions most people will become more limber and the tie can be made steadily more strict, and with patience most people can eventually achieve the goal of elbows touching behind the back. If the elbows are as close together as the subject can bear, it is usually described as elbows together. If more relaxed, it is more properly described as hands clasped behind. Elbow bondage most commonly uses rope, but webbing
or strap
s may also be used.
To immobilise the arms further, the elbow tie is almost always combined with binding of the wrist
s, and the elbow tie can be incorporated into other bondage techniques. For example, the rope or strap can be run round the torso, waist or crotch, pressing the arms against the back, to enhance other positions such as a strict hogtie
. On a woman, an elbow tie can conveniently be combined with breast bondage
. Another technique is to secure ropes from the elbow tie to a belt or other rope round the body, or to some sort of tight shoulder harness. Elbow bondage can be extended into strappado
or strappado bondage
. Unless the elbows are touching with the cords cinched tightly, the loops wrapped around the upper arms must usually be tied off to some other restraint mechanism to prevent them from slipping down towards the wrists. Unless the elbows are firmly tightened up the subject can often intentionally force the elbows closer together behind the back, thus loosening up the tie, and permitting the possibility of escape.
Care must be taken that the ropes in this position do not cut off circulation. Whilst not immediately dangerous in and of itself, numbness should be taken as a warning sign. The position should be used for as short a time as possible. In particular, where this tie is part of a larger one, the elbows should be tied as late as possible and released first.

Safety
As there are several blood vessels and nerves close to the surface just above the elbow, the ropes should be applied to the upper arms.Care must be taken that the ropes in this position do not cut off circulation.
