from Maine
from 1849 to 1851.
Gerry was born on December 6, 1813 in Waterford, Maine
and was a grandson of former U.S. Vice-President Elbridge Gerry
. After attending Brighton Academy he read for the law and was admitted to the bar in 1839.
He was elected to a single term in Congress as a Democrat in 1848. He didn’t seek to be renominated. After his term, he moved to Portland, Maine
and continued the practice of law. He died on April 10, 1886 and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery
there.
