. The president is elected for a four year term by the people. The State Great Khural (Ulsyn Ikh Khural, State Great Assembly) has had 76 members, elected for a four year term in single-seat constituencies. Due to the voting system, Mongolia has experienced extreme shifts in the composition of the parliament after the 1996, 2000, and 2004 elections. It has therefore changed to a more proportional system. A total of 76 new parliament members have been elected from 26 electoral districts throughout the country at the 29th, 2008 elections.
