Politically, Blackwood-Stirling is a conservative seat. It is theoretically competitive between the two conservative forces in Western Australian politics: the Liberal Party
and the National Party

. It was essentially an almagamation of the Liberal-held district of Warren-Blackwood
and the National-held district of Stirling
, although parts of each ended up in neighbouring districts. 52 per cent of the new district's voters came from the former district, whilst 37 per cent came from the latter. The remainder were previously a part of the National-held district of Wagin
