The district in its present form is a narrow coastal strip running from just south of Innisfail
to just north of Townsville
; though neither town is part of the electorate. Hinchinbrook does include the towns of Cardwell
, Ingham
, Mission Beach
and Tully
. The electorate was first contested in 1950.
