. It is nestled within the majestic Rocky Mountain range. Elkford is located 32 km North of the junction at Sparwood, on provincial Highway 43.

Elkford has year-round outdoor recreation opportunities and activities.

The town and area boast many kilometers of hiking, snowmobiling and cross country ski trails, as well as a family oriented ski hill, Wapiti, run by Elkford resident volunteers. The Wapiti hill consists of a nine-tower t-bar lift, a lodge, rentals and night skiing all at affordable rates.

The Elkford Aquatic Centre has a competition-size pool, hot tub and sauna.

There are two public schools Rocky Mountain Elementary School and Elkford Secondary School

A vast majority of the town works at the coal mine operations in the nearby area run by Teck Coal. There are approximately 3000 residents in Elkford.

Elkford is known as Canada's highest-elevation incorporated community.
