Isabel Esteva is 80 years old when the story begins. And 80 years old when she died at the end of the presentation of its hundredth fashion collection.
Meanwhile, she is a teenager, girl, young woman. It crossed the French border at the age of fifteen, 27 January 1939, staying with his mother and younger brother in a camp in the Ardeche, hand in Marseille during the summer of 1940, working as laborer in a soap, discovers gifts for sewing, creates his first models.
Pilar, her mother died in 1955 of a heart attack. Fleeing from Spain after the fall of Barcelona, she was separated from her husband on board as the border for the camp of Argelès
, in the Pyrenees-Orientales. Alone with her two children, she assumes the difficulties of uprooting and exile.

Esperenza, the grandmother of Isabel, died in December 1938 during the siege of Barcelona. A bomb dropped by a plane nationalist fell in the courtyard of the school where she had gone to fetch his little son Ignacio.
Chatters like a magpie, ironic, cheerful, she's ruthless in the dialogue between her daughter and granddaughter.

Synopsis
January 1939. The fall of Barcelona declares the defeat of the Spanish Republicans. Five hundred thousand of them choose exile. Arriving in France, the men were disarmed and interned in camps, and their families are moved by the government to makeshift camps, many in Ardeche.
