in Bend, Oregon, shortly after the release of their second full-length album, Death of a Rockstar.

2003's Death of a Rockstar was a more polished affair than its predecessor, featuring vocal harmonies and more piano than the self-titled EP. Shortly after the album's completion, Nathan Walker left the band to pursue other musical interests. After a year sabbatical, the band regrouped for the live production of Heroes, a live album and DVD, adding Timothy Heil and Sam Hobbes to the group, with Katie Scott on pianos and Whitney Stern singing vocals. The album was heavy in pop influence, but surprisingly integrated scream-o and metal to its rock tracks. Because of its eclecticism, Heroes struggled to find an audience.

Earwicker joined the group in 2007 after the exit of Hobbes. In November 2008, Elliot produced and released Rocketships, tracking and engineering the album in Boise, Idaho under the direction of Telly award winning engineer Scott Pergande. The album was mastered in Nashville, Tennessee by five-time Grammy award-winning engineer Richard Dodd
