since 1988 compiling a 248-138-32 record in 22 seasons. He is that school's all time winningest coach. His team won the 2001 NCAA Division 1 Championship. The Tar Heels also won the 2000 Atlantic Coast Conference championship. He has led the program to the NCAA tournament in 9 out of the past 10 seasons, and reached the Elite Eight 5 out of the last 10 seasons. In 2001, he won the NSCAA National Coach of the Year award. He replaced current legendary North Carolina women's soccer coach Anson Dorrance
