She first appeared in a guest role along with her brother, Leo in the episodes airing 11 and 12 October 2000 and then reappeared on 19 April 2001 when their family moved into 32 Ramsay Street. Emily departed the serial with her family on 9 May 2002 after being axed by executive producer, Stanley Walsh.

Several months later, Emily returns, when her father, Evan

 purchases Number 32 Ramsay Street in order to be nearer to the local high school as he has landed a job as a teacher there. Emily is resistant when the family try to separate her from her comfort blanket but eventually complies.

When Emily's doll, Lizzy goes missing, she blames Leo first but he denies it. When the children go looking for the doll, they find it in a window toy shop at the local mall. The following morning, Emily and Leo try to retrieve Lizzy themselves by distracting collector Bob's attention. While in the store, the children hide but are collared by Bob who calls Maggie. Maggie threatens Bob with legal action unless he hands back Emily's doll, which he does.

After an argument with Leo involving mixed up boxes delivered to Number 32, Emily runs away into the night and sneaks on a bus without her family knowing. The family and the Neighbours look for her but Emily is not found until Leo joins in the search and she hears his voice and comes out of hiding. Social Services are notified but with Susan speaking positively of Evan and Maggie, no further action is taken.

Emily later complains of earache and Maggie takes her to see Karl, who is unable to diagnose the cause of pain. After offering Emily a bowl of ice cream, the problem is revealed to be more to do with her teeth. Children's entertainers' The Wiggles

 pay Emily a visit while she is recuperating after her friend Louise "Lolly" Carpenter mentions that Emily hasn't been well recently. The Wiggles perform a medley of their well-known songs, much to Emily's pleasure.

In the midst of her parents financial dramas, Emily begins talking to an unseen friend, Madge.

One day a letter arrives at Number 32 addressed to Maggie. Emily, who has been practicing her reading, reads it and the contents detail Neighbour Toadfish Rebecchi
