The Empire and Dublin Railroad was founded in 1888. It began by using a former logging railroad owned by the Empire Lumber Company that ran about 11 miles between Empire, GA and Dublin, GA then rebuilding and extending it to Hawkinsville, GA. The railroad ran into financial trouble and was reorganized as the Oconee and Western Railroad
in 1892.

Organized in 1892, the Oconee and Western Railroad was founded to take over operations of the failed Empire and Dublin Railroad. The E&D had built a line from Dublin, GA to Hawkinsville, GA and in 1896 the O&W had started to extend the line to Grovania, GA...
