Tate's gear is chosen with variety and freedom from any one sponsor. On the most recent tour he was outfitted with Ludwig Vistalites (22,13,16). Other sets in Tate's arsenal include a vintage Slingerland (20,12,14),an SJC custom set, and an Orange County Drums and Percussion set. DW hardware is always the choice on each set, he also utilizes Zildjian Cymbals recently introducing a K custom ride into his set up, preferring it over its A custom predecessor. Also, He uniquely angles his ride cymbal backwards to achieve a more sustained and easier accessed shoulder tone. He uses Pro-Mark 2Bs with wood tips.
