Ernie Haase started singing as a young boy at Washington Ave. Baptist Church. He is a Christian
tenor vocalist known for being the founder of Ernie Haase and Signature Sound. Haase was known previously as the last tenor vocalist to perform with the Cathedral Quartet
from 1990 until their retirement in 1999.
After the Cathedral Quartet retired in 1999, he embarked upon a solo career for several years. In addition to his solo concerts, he performed from 2001 through 2003 with Jake Hess
, Wesley Pritchard
, and George Younce
in the Old Friends Quartet. After the Old Friends Quartet disbanded due to the ill health of George Younce and Jake Hess, Haase founded the group, Signature Sound. The group was rebranded, "Ernie Haase and Signature Sound", to avoid confusion with other similarly named groups and also as a way to take advantage of Haase's popularity as the final tenor for the Cathedral Quartet.
Ernie Haase is best known for his rendition of the Southern Gospel classic, "Oh What A Savior". On one particular night in the Spring of 1990, Ernie was invited to sing at his alma mater, Oakland City University
, near his hometown. Also scheduled on the concert was the Cathedrals.
The Cathedrals' bass singer, George Younce, was waiting in the wings, backstage, watching and listening to Haase's performance. Obviously, George liked what he heard and saw, because within a week, Ernie was making his way to meet the group for his first performance as the Cathedrals' tenor.
Ernie Haase married George Younce's third daughter Lisa in 1990 after a brief courtship.
