Escape From Paradise City
Encyclopedia
Escape From Paradise City is a 2007 computer game created by Sirius Games, the sequel to 2004's Gangland
. Published by Cdv Software Entertainment, it was released on October 27, 2007. The game acts much like a more strategy oriented hero focused game, acting a lot like World of Warcraft or a MOBA Game in that you pick one of three heroes, level up, find equipment and try to complete missions as well as small quests in the maps themselves for bonuses. The game's story is a mix of light cyberpunk and vampire story elements as well as a very obvious inspiration from the movie Escape from New York. The situation the three characters are forced into is amazingly similar, being ordered by a government entity to be introduced inside the city in order to handle a very sensitive mission they could not use the real police for.
Boris, Angel, and Porter are the three playable heroes with their own play style. Porter uses SMG's and Rifles and represent ranged Damage Per Second potential along with casting support abilities. Angel is a Melee Tank character that can use knives and swords. Boris uses dual pistols or revolvers and has the highest henchmen cap, where henchmen are much like pets that can be hired and level up with the character.
The game was generally ignored for lacking much of the gameplay and content of the game Gangland, which Paradise City was supposed to be a sequel to. It is also notable for its horrendous campaign missions, which all boil down to "Level up, do busywork, kill level boss" with tiny variations along with the requirement to fully level up all three characters with their own story arch in a way thats much like just playing three mini-campaigns in order. There are three versions of the last mission, one for each character; with the same goal of killing the Head vampire.
Many of the games plot twists are often considered bad writing and usually unexplained. It is heavily suggested that either through sex or biting Porter is turned into a Vampire; as after meeting Lydia(A vampire) the local vampire hunters die in droves for the chance to assassinate Porter. Nearly all of the vampire characters are never given a backstory or explained, and the realization that Paradise City is run by vampires is pretty much met with no surprise. In similar fashion the Head Vampire has no discernible backstory or personality is granted to spectacular boss battle or cutscene, as well as puts up no fight as one of the saddest boss fights in RPG history.
The various equipment, items and characters in the game do suggest a slight cyberpunk background that is taken for granted. Items such as Biotic Armor, powerful stimulant drugs and nanofibers are in large supply in town and as a agent even after Boris kills Kovacs you are granted a large arsenal of support abilities such as Snipers, Gang Hits, Poison Bombs and other direct means of support.
The game feature no skirmish mode, and multiplayer servers are rumored to be down. Multiplayer allows players to pick one of the three characters and battle for points or kills. Such as three deaths and you are out. Multiplayer was geniunely fun, but the games terrible story gameplay and AI scared many players away before they could give it a chance.
