name for "hope."
The Village of Esperance is in eastern part of the Town of Esperance
. The village is west of Schenectady
.
The village was incorporated in 1819, although the charter was revised in 1835. The village is oldest incorporated village in the County. When the town of Esperance was formed in 1846, it took the name of the village.

, the village has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.4 km²), of which, 0.5 square miles (1.3 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (5.66%) is water.
The village is adjacent to the Schoharie Creek
and is located on US Route 20 at the junction of County Roads 28 and 44.

was 757.7 people per square mile (293.4/km²). There were 158 housing units at an average density of 315.1 per square mile (122.0/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.84% White, 1.58% Black or African American
, 1.05% Asian, and 0.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.26% of the population.
There were 149 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.4% were married couples
living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% were non-families. 21.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the village the population was spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males.

History
The village was the site of the first settlement in the town, around 1803, based on an original land grant of 1739.The village was incorporated in 1819, although the charter was revised in 1835. The village is oldest incorporated village in the County. When the town of Esperance was formed in 1846, it took the name of the village.
