European women's Management Development
Encyclopedia
European Women's Management Development (EWMD) is a European and international network
of individual and corporate members, drawn from professional organisations. Members are from all areas of business, education, politics and culture.
EWMD was founded in 1984 by women, who realised that there are no women in management and that no company is developing women to managers. These founding members have been members of the European Network of EFMD, which is an association of the leading European Business Schools
. The need at this time was to establish a European network to make women more visible in Management. In the coming years the trend was to look for women and men as individuals, double career couples or families who like to have a balanced work and private life
.
EWMD has members in more than 40 cities in Europe and some more in the United States, South Africa
and Asia. There are regional groups on a national level and a growing number of city networks. Members are connected in local and in online communities
, with blogs, wikis and mailinglists.
The network highlight is the international conference every year, which focuses on a broad spectrum of issues relating to new trends, but more and more smaller cross-border-meetings with time for networking and interactive workshops.
